Adani Group resumes power supply to Bangladesh: report

Adani Group’s energy firm has fully restored power supply to Bangladesh after halving it since November following missed payments, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) said on Thursday.

BPDB chairman Rezaul Karim said regular payments have resumed, enabling the restoration of power, Bloomberg reported.

Data from BPDB showed an increase in supply from Adani Group in the past 15 days.

Bangladesh requested Adani Power to fully restore supply, Reuters reported, citing a Bangladeshi official.

Adani Power, supplying Bangladesh from its Jharkhand plant, halved supply on 31 October amid low winter demand and a payment dispute.

BPDB was paying $85 million monthly to clear dues and requested the company to resume supply from its second unit.

In 2017, Adani Power signed a 25-year exclusive supply contract with BPDB under then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, from its Godda plant featuring two 800-megawatt units.

BPDB owed approximately $900 million, though it maintains pending dues at $650 million.
