Aditya Birla’s Sabyasachi Couture names Manish Chopra as CEO: report
Chopra joins the label after being in a senior leadership role at Shein India, which operates in the country in partnership with Reliance Retail
Sabyasachi Couture, the luxury fashion house backed by the Aditya Birla Group, has named Manish Chopra as its new chief executive officer, The Economic Times reported, citing people in the know.
Chopra joins the label after being in a senior leadership role at Shein India, which operates in the country in partnership with Reliance Retail.
Chopra moved to Reliance Retail Ventures in mid-2023 after working at Meta. At Reliance, he led Shein’s India operations.
Sabyasachi sold a 51% stake to Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) in 2021 for Rs398 crore.
ABFRL, which also holds interests in brands such as Tarun Tahiliani, Masaba, and Shantanu & Nikhil, recently reported a 9% year-on-year revenue increase for the March quarter, with its designer-led brands showing a 46% jump in growth.
In May, Aditya Birla Group reorganized its fashion businesses by separating ABFRL from Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands. The latter now includes names like Reebok, American Eagle, Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Peter England, and Allen Solly. Ethnic and designer labels including Sabyasachi remain under ABFRL.
India’s luxury apparel segment recorded $7.5 billion in sales in 2024 and is projected to grow to $10.7 billion by 2033, according to a report by IMARC Group. The report cited higher disposable incomes, expanding global brand presence, and increasing interest in premium ethnic wear as key factors driving this growth.
