Ambani, Adani join hands to use each other’s fuel stations

Billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani are teaming up to bring their energy ventures together in India’s competitive fuel retail market.

Their companies will now share infrastructure to sell petrol, diesel, and compressed natural gas (CNG) across each other’s service stations.

Under this partnership, select Adani Total Gas Ltd (ATGL) outlets will begin offering Jio-bp’s high-performance petrol and diesel, while certain Jio-bp fuel stations will install ATGL’s CNG dispensing units in areas where ATGL is licensed to operate.

The collaboration spans current and upcoming retail sites and is aimed at expanding reach and improving customer convenience.

This partnership will enable us to leverage each other’s infrastructure, thus enhancing customer experience and offerings,” said Suresh P. Manglani, executive director and chief executive officer, Adani Total Gas Ltd.

This is the second time the two conglomerates have come together.

In 2023, Reliance Industries Ltd bought a 26% stake in a 500 megawatt renewable energy project operated by Adani.

Their latest deal could sharpen rivalry in a sector dominated by government-owned oil firms that control around 90% of India’s 97,000 petrol and diesel outlets.

Jio-bp runs about 2,000 fuel retail outlets, many of which offer electric vehicle charging and convenience shopping, while Adani Total operates 650 CNG stations, in addition to supplying biogas, LNG, and EV charging solutions.
