Entrepreneur Ananya Birla, who is also the daughter of billionaire industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, on Wednesday announced her entry into the beauty and personal care (BPC) sector.

Birla’s new venture will focus on selling makeup, fragrances, and other personal care products, which will be introduced in phases, according to a statement.

“With greater exposure to global products and knowledge, Indian consumers now demand more from home-grown brands. This venture aims to meet those expectations with authenticity and innovation and bring world-class products to the Indian marketplace,” the 30-year-old said in the statement.

The announcement comes as a growing number of entrepreneurs are entering the competitive BPC space.

In 2023, Isha Ambani launched Tira, a beauty retail platform offering a wide range of products, including makeup, skincare, and haircare, to rival Nykaa, which has maintained a hold over the sector.

For Birla’s latest venture, Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has reportedly been roped in.

The name of the venture and financial details have not been disclosed.

Birla, who launched a microlending business at the age of 17, holds several key roles within the Aditya Birla Group, including directorships at Hindalco, Grasim, and ABFRL.
