Apple exports $6 bn iPhones from India in first half of fiscal: report

Apple’s iPhone exports from India surged by 33% in April-September 2024, underscoring the US tech giant’s strategy to pare reliance on China, Bloomberg reported, citing people aware of the development.

The US technology giant’s annual exports of India-made iPhones hit $6 billion, with projections to exceed $10 billion this year. This growth in exports from India reflects the company’s expansion of its manufacturing base, leveraging domestic subsidies and skilled manpower. Apple is shifting its focus from China to India due to increasing tensions between the US and China, Bloomberg reported.

Apple relies on three main suppliers including Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology Group, Pegatron Corp, and Tata Electronics, which assemble iPhones in southern India.

Foxconn’s Chennai facility is the company’s largest, contributing to half of Apple’s total iPhone exports from India. In 2023, Apple exported $1.7 billion worth of iPhones from its Karnataka factory in the six months ending in September 2023.
