Asian Paints taps Britannia’s Berry as independent director
Berry has been appointed for a period of five years starting 23 October, subject to shareholders' approval, Asian Paints informed the exchanges
The board at Asian Paints Ltd this week approved the appointment of Britannia Industries Ltd vice chairman and managing director Varun Berry as an independent director at the paints firm.
Berry has been appointed based on the recommendations of the firm’s nomination and remuneration panel for a period of five years starting 23 October 2024, subject to shareholders’ approval, Asian Paints informed the exchanges.
Berry is not related to the directors, key managerial personnel or members of the promoters and promoter group, company said, adding that the approval of the shareholders will be sought by postal ballot in due course.
Berry joined Britannia as vice-president and chief operating officer in January 2013, and is currently vice-chairman and managing director. He is also chairman of low-cost airline Go First (formerly GoAir).
Berry attended a course in strategic management from Wharton University and the global leadership program at the International Institute for Management Development, an independent academic institute in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Berry has an experience of more than 38 years with companies including Hindustan Unilever Ltd and PepsiCo, both in India and overseas, and a track record in leading startups, turnarounds, joint ventures and growth businesses.
He is also on the board and committees of the board of some leading companies, an Asian Paints statement said.
