EU energy giant E.ON picks HCL Tech to power cloud, AI makeover

HCL Tech this week announced a strategic partnership with E.ON, one of Europe’s largest gas and electricity distribution companies, aimed at modernizing its operations through predictive technologies, improved efficiency, and greater responsiveness to market demands.

E.ON serves more than 47 million customers—including households, businesses, and municipalities—across Germany, the UK, Sweden, and other European markets.

HCL Tech will play a key role in E.ON’s transition to the cloud, the company said in a statement. The energy firm currently manages a distribution network of 1.6 million km.

As part of the multi-year agreement, HCL Tech will set up a private cloud environment for E.ON and oversee cloud and network operations across the utility’s global hyperscaler ecosystem.

Using platforms such as AI Force, HCLTech will support E.ON’s efforts to scale automation, enhance cloud and network maturity, and advance its DevOps-based transformation strategy, the company statement said.

Gert Buitenhuis, head of global technology platforms at E.ON, said, “HCLTech is a strong partner to support E.ON in this next phase, delivering transformation at scale and driving value through automation and AI. HCLTech is a global technology firm with more than 223,000 employees across 60 countries. The company reported consolidated revenues of $13.8 billion for the 12 months ending March 2025.
