Japanese automaker Honda Motor Co. has named Takashi Nakajima as president and chief executive officer of its India business.

Nakajima, who is currently president of Honda Motor Russia, will take charge on 1 April from Takuya Tsumura, who will move to Honda’s head office in Japan.

Nakajima joined Honda in 1994, and has served in various roles, including business planning, product planning, and marketing, across Japan, China, Spain, Czech Republic and Russia.

During his three-year tenure in India, incumbent Tsumura helped build the brand’s premium positioning of Honda in India, strengthened customer centric solutions, and drove company’s profitable growth, Honda said in a statement.

Tsumura led the introduction of premium models, including India’s first mainstream hybrid model Honda City e:HEV, new sport utility vehicle (SUV) Elevate, the third-generation Amaze, and also laid the foundation for the launch of future models, including Honda’s first battery electric vehicle for India.

During Tsumura’s tenure, Honda Cars India’s export business grew, starting with the export of the made-in-India Elevate to Japan.

Honda Cars India, which was established in December 1995, has its corporate office in Greater Noida, with a manufacturing facility located at Tapukara in Alwar district of Rajasthan.
