Maruti Suzuki’s exports surge 18% to over 300,000

Exports of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s passenger vehicles jumped about 18% year-on-year to a record 332,585 in the fiscal year that ended on 31 March, helping the automaker maintain its position as India’s top vehicle exporter for the fourth year in a row, the company said in a statement.

The company accounted for nearly 43% of the country’s total vehicle exports, with Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Swift, and Dzire emerging as the most exported models.

South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Chile, Japan, and Mexico were Maruti Suzuki’s key export markets during the year.

Hisashi Takeuchi, managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Maruti Suzuki, said the achievement was a milestone that was in line with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ vision.

“We are humbled that our manufacturing excellence has earned global trust, with Maruti Suzuki contributing nearly 43% of the country’s total vehicle exports,” Takeuchi said.

The company also started exports of the Fronx and Jimny 5-door models to Japan, and received positive response. Takeuchi noted that this success highlighted India’s growing prominence as a global manufacturing hub.

Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki plans to start exports of Suzuki’s first global strategic battery electric vehicle, the e VITARA, to around 100 countries, including Europe and Japan, in FY26.

“As announced at Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo, India is the global manufacturing hub of Suzuki’s first global strategic BEV, the e VITARA. In FY 2025-26, we will initiate exports of e VITARA to around 100 countries, including Europe and Japan,” Takeuchi said.

Maruti Suzuki began exporting vehicles from India in 1986, with its first large consignment of 500 cars shipped to Hungary in September 1987.

The company has since expanded its global reach, exporting 17 models to approximately 100 countries, according to the Press Trust of India.

It achieved a milestone of 3 million cumulative exports last November.
