Reliance Retail Ltd’s ethnic handicrafts venture Swadesh has stitched up an alliance with luxury fashion label Falguni Shane Peacock, The Economic Times reported, citing executive aware of the developments.
The luxury label is founded by designer couple Falguni and Shane Peacock.
Known for mixing Indian craftsmanship with Western trends, the label has dressed international celebrities including Rihanna and Beyoncé.
In an Instagram post on the label’s pact with Swadesh for the India Couture Week, the fashion house wrote, “This association (with Swadesh) marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time we have joined forces with an organization dedicated to supporting skilled artisans and weavers.”
The “collaboration may evolve into a deeper strategic partnership in the near future,” the ET report said.
Reliance Industries Ltd’s retail arm plans to popularize ethnic handicrafts through its Swadesh brand by opening stores similar to government-run emporium stores.
In the June quarter, Reliance Retail posted a revenue of Rs75,630 crore, an 8.1 % increase from the year-ago period.
Reliance’s retail business opened 331 stores in the June quarter, bringing the total number of stores to 18,918.
