RInfra signs $2.3 billion deal with US firm to service jets, choppers
As part of the agreement, Reliance Defence and Coastal Mechanics will set up a joint venture at MIHAN in Maharashtra
Reliance Defence Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, has entered into a strategic partnership to the tune of $2.3 billion (Rs20,000 crore) with US-based Coastal Mechanics Inc. to provide maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO), and upgrade services for India’s defense forces, a company statement said.
The agreement was announced on Monday.
The two companies will support a range of military platforms used by the Indian armed forces, including more than 100 Jaguar and MiG-29 fighter aircraft, Apache attack helicopters, L-70 air defense guns, and other older systems that continue to be in service.
“This collaboration targets a long-duration opportunity driven by the Indian military’s evolving strategy of extending asset lifecycles and adopting performance-based logistics,” the companies said in a joint statement.
As part of the agreement, Reliance Defence and Coastal Mechanics will set up a joint venture at MIHAN (Multi-modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) in Maharashtra. The facility will serve both Indian and export markets.
Coastal Mechanics is an authorized contractor for the US Department of Defense. The company brings its experience in MRO and lifecycle support to the Indian market.
The companies said the new facility will help sustain and modernize military equipment, in line with India’s move to extend the life of existing platforms instead of replacing them.
