Standard Chartered (StanChart) has appointed P.D. Singh as its chief executive officer (CEO) for India, effective 1 April.

Singh will take over from Zarin Daruwala, who is set to retire on 31 March.

Singh comes with nearly three decades of experience in banking and financial services.

Prior to Standard Chartered, he served as CEO of JPMorgan Chase Bank India.

“A double MBA with an engineering degree, PD Singh brings with him a wealth of experience from close to three decades in banking and finance, spanning leadership and coverage roles across European and American banks,” Standard Chartered India said in a post on social media.

StanChart had nominated Singh as its India and South Asia CEO in November last year, Reuters had then reported.

The Reserve Bank of India has now approved Singh’s appointment.

Before JPMorgan Chase, Singh spent a decade at HSBC, where he led corporate banking for large local corporates in India and held senior roles in the western and southern regions.

He was also associated with Global Trust Bank during initial years of his career, managing retail and corporate banking operations.

Standard Chartered has been operating in India for more than 160 years and has a network of 100 branches across 42 cities in India.
