Vodafone taps Cisco to upgrade 5G, 4G network

Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) has tied up with Cisco to upgrade its network infrastructure and enhance user experience.

As part of the deal, Vi will use advanced Cisco technology called Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) to handle more data smoothly and make the internet faster and more reliable.

From commercial enterprises to startups, the network will provide secure and seamless connectivity, Vi said in a statement.

Vi’s technology chief Jagbir Singh said Cisco’s expertise in MPLS solutions will help VI network to automate critical network functions, optimize traffic management, and rapidly adapt to challenging market demands.

“This transport network is designed to meet the challenges of modern network environments, ensuring high performance, reliability, and security,” Singh said.

Creating a strong 4G/5G backhaul network (the part that connects local networks to the main internet backbone) is essential for smooth and uninterrupted mobile and internet service, said Cisco vice-president Gordon Thomson, who leads business and operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Using Cisco’s advanced technology, Vi can offer faster, more reliable, and easily expandable internet services all over India,” Thomas said.

Vodafone India, Aditya Birla Group, and Vodafone Group partnership hold a large spectrum portfolio, including mid-band 5G spectrum in 17 circles.
