India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has tied up with social gaming and interactive entertainment platform WinZO to help gaming startups expand globally.
Under the deal, the department plans to set up an ecosystem of more than 2,000 startups, innovators, and students and help provide mentorship, industry insights, and access to global opportunities, DPIIT said in a statement.
A center of excellence (CoE) will be set up to help startups with skills development, monetization strategies for Indian gaming assets, creation of global-standard intellectual property, and attracting foreign investment, the statement said, adding that it will also seek to address challenges like talent gaps and monetization in the industry.
The partnership will also help expand WinZO’s ‘Tech Triumph Program,’ which showcased Indian talent at international events like the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and Gamescom LATAM, to offer greater support for game developers, DPIIT said.
Citing a recent report by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), DPIIT said India’s interactive entertainment sector is expected to grow to $60 billion by 2034. This will potentially create over 2 million jobs. The DPIIT-WinZO partnership is expected to drive this growth, it noted.
