‘Shōgun’, ‘The Bear’ break nomination records at the 2024 Emmys

The nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced this week by the Television Academy, with a list of the best of the best in television. 

FX’s hit comedy-drama, The Bear, set a record with the most nominations for a comedy series, with 23 nods, including those for acting and direction, even as many viewers questioned the “comedy” label after the show left them in tears. 

Meanwhile, another FX series, Shōgun, led the pack with 25 nominations, including those in acting as well as technical categories, making a hefty contribution to FX’s tally of 93 nominations. 

Netflix gained the most nominations, 107, across 35 different programs, including The Crown, which earned a total of 18 nods, Ripley, with 13 nods, and the infamous Baby Reindeer, with 11 nods, including three for acting, writing, and producing, for creator and comedian Richard Gadd. 

The previous edition of the Emmys took place just earlier this year, after being pushed back from its usual September airing, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
