ISB tops FT ranking of best Indian business schools; 4 IIMs in global top 100

ISB tops FT ranking of best Indian business schools; 4 IIMs in global top 100

The Indian School of Business (ISB) has been ranked the best business school in India in the Financial Times (FT) Global MBA Ranking 2024, beating the coveted IIMs. 

In the global list, the ISB is ranked 31, improving from last year’s 39th rank.

The second-ranked business school in India is the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), which is at 41st rank globally. 

IIMA is followed by the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) at 47, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) at 67, the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIML) at 85, and the Xavier School of Management (XLRI) at 99.

Globally, the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School tops the rank, followed by France’s Insead. 

Columbia Business School in New York and Italy’s SDA Bocconi School of Management are jointly ranked third, while Spain’s IESE Business School is at the fifth spot.

Harvard Business School, which regularly features among the top 10 in various rankings, is placed at the 11th spot in the FT Global MBA Ranking 2024. 

Here is the list of Indian business schools included in the global top 100 institutes:

1- Indian School of Business 

The Indian School of Business has secured the 31st rank in the FT Global MBA Ranking 2024. The weighted salary at the ISB is $174,421. 

The ISB is a research-oriented international business school. The ISB’s governing board comprises business leaders, entrepreneurs, and academicians from some of the world’s leading business and management education institutions. 

It has two campuses, in Hyderabad and in Mohali. 

2- Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad 

IIM Ahmedabad, founded in 1961, is the second-oldest IIM and is consistently ranked as one of the best business schools in India. It has been ranked No.1 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2023. In the FT Global MBA Ranking 2024, IIM Ahmedabad is placed at number 47. 

In terms of weighted alumni salary, IIMA is ranked 1 in India with $194,595.

3- Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

IIMB has consistently ranked as one of the best B-schools in India. In the FT Global MBA Ranking 2024, it is ranked at 67th spot. The weighted salary at IIMB is $167,425. 

IIM Bangalore has 109 full-time faculty members, about 1,200 students across degree-granting programs, and nearly 5,000 annual Executive Education participants.

4- Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta

With a global ranking of 67 in the FT’s list of best business schools, IIMC is at the fourth spot in India. In terms of weighted alumni salary, IIMA is ranked 4th in India with $161,676. 

The institute was established in 1961 in collaboration with the Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Ford Foundation, and the government of West Bengal. The IIM-C campus is spread across 135 acres of Joka, a suburb in the southern part of Kolkata. 

5- Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow 

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow is the fourth in the prestigious IIM family of management schools to be established in India after IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Bangalore. Set up in the culturally rich north Indian of Lucknow in 1984, IIM Lucknow also runs a satellite campus exclusively for executive education in Noida, near Delhi. 

In the FT Global MBA Ranking 2024, it is ranked 85th, making it the fifth-best management school in India. The weighted alumni salary at the institute is $141,382. 

6- XLRI — Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur

Recognized as one of the best non-IIM business schools in India, XLRI is also the oldest B-school in the country. It was founded in 1949 by a group of Jesuit priests in Jamshedpur to bring a change in the economy and society at large. 

It is ranked at the 99th spot in the FT Global MBA Ranking 2024, with a weighted salary of $132,534.
