US president-elect Donald Trump has appointed Sriram Krishnan, an Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist who headed product teams at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook, and Snap, as the senior White House policy advisor on artificial intelligence (AI).

“Sriram Krishnan will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in AI and help shape and co-ordinate AI policy across government, including working with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Sunday.

Krishnan, who hails from Tamil Nadu, will work closely with former Pay-Pal executive David Sacks, who will be AI and Cryto Czar—a newly created role in the new presidential council of advisors for science and technology.

Both Krishnan and Sacks are considered close aides of billionaire businessman Elon Musk, who will co-lead the planned Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Trump 2.0.

Reacting to the appointment, Krishnan posted on X, saying, “I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI working closely with @DavidSacks. Thank you @realDonaldTrump for this opportunity.”

Originally from Chennai, Krishnan graduated in BTech in information technology from SRM Valliammai Engineering College in Kattankulathur, Kanchipuram.

He started his career in 2005 with Microsoft, subsequently leading product teams at Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook, and Snap.

He collaborated with Musk to transform Twitter (now X) following its acquisition in 2022.

In 2021, Krishnan joined Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) as a general partner and, by 2023, led the launch of the firm’s first international office in London.

He also serves as an advisor to the Indian fintech company Cred and co-hosts The Aarthi and Sriram Show, a popular podcast he runs alongside his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.

Krishnan is the latest in a string of Indian-origin executives who Trump considers loyal and has appointed for his upcoming second tenure at the White House.

Last month, the president-elect announced the nomination of Indian-American lawyer Harmeet K Dhillon as assistant attorney general for civil rights at the department of justice.

He previously appointed Kolkata-born Jayanta ‘Jay’ Bhattacharya as director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Trump also nominated loyalist Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel to head the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Ramaswamy to co-lead the planned DOGE.
