Sony Pictures names Gaurav Banerjee as MD and CEO
Banerjee, whose tenure will come into effect from 26 August, pending regulatory approvals, will replace N.P. Singh, who will retire as non-executive chairman after 25 years.
Sony Pictures Networks India has named former journalist and Disney executive Gaurav Banerjee as its new managing director and chief executive officer, the company said in a statement.
Banerjee, whose tenure will be effective from 26 August, pending regulatory approvals, will replace N P Singh, who will retire as non-executive chairman after 25 years.
The former journalist, who started as an assistant producer and anchor at Aaj Tak, earlier served as head of content for Hindi entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar and also business head for Star Bharat for Hindi and English movies, kids and infotainment, and regional (east).
From Aaj Tak. Banerjee moved to Star News, producing and anchoring prime-time news shows.
Banerjee has a Master’s in filmmaking and TV production from the Jamia Millia Islamia University and an undergraduate degree in history from St Stephens, Delhi.
Sony Pictures said Singh will assume his new role of non-executive chairman until the end of the fiscal year to support the transition.
Singh said in the statement that he was proud of the success and innovation Sony Pictures has achieved.
