The weekend is almost upon us, and here’s a sneak preview on what’s creating a buzz on the various streaming platforms: track a father run amok in Berlin as he tries to reach his daughter on time; set sail for Mediterranean mysteries; or trek through Alaska’s icy grip with Jodie Foster.

Death and Other Details

Helmed by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, this series tries to capture the essence of Agatha Christie in a classic whodunnit fashion.

Imogene Scott,accidentally becomes the prime suspect in a locked-room murder mystery when things go awry.

Detective Rufus Cotesworth is on the case, atop a Mediterranean ocean liner. Rufus and Imogene must work together, to unravel the murder mystery when everyone else around them is convinced that she is packing a secret in the middle of the ocean.

True Detective: Night Country

The latest season of True Detective, first without show creator Nic Pizzolatto, is set in Alaska, ditching the previous season’s Louisiana swamp.

Liz Danvers is a haunted detective chasing after vanished scientists and a murdered woman, the show sheds its familiar Southern swagger for a chilling atmosphere and introspective character study.

We get nuanced and exciting performances, especially from Foster, whose Detective Danvers battles both the Alaskan wilderness and her own inner demons. With its haunting mysteries, chilling atmosphere, and a fresh, character-driven direction, this True Detective might just be the show’s icy, gripping rebirth.

Kübra (Turkish)

This psychological thriller revolves around Gökhan Şahinoğlu, a man that finds himself locked in battle between light and darkness after an online presence, named Kübra, begins to communicate with him.

Kübra can apparently predict the future, and soon Gökhan finds himself in a predicament that challenges his relationships with those around him. Supported by a strong Turkish cast, this show definitely makes for an intriguing weekend-binge.

Sixty Minutes (German)

This fast-paced film, helmed by Oliver Kienle, revolves around MMA fighter Octavio. Racing against time, he finds himself at a crossroads when he has to turn down an important fight to make it in time for his daughter’s birthday so he doesn’t lose custody. An ominous figure tails him and he makes a run for it, hot on his heels.

This pivotal moment then determines the fate of his journey with some difficult people, a race against time while Berlin closes in on him, pushing him towards the brink.

Known for dressing the Spanish elites, designer Cristóbal Balenciaga in the year 1937 presented his first high fashion collection in Paris.

This series about the iconic fashion designer, isn’t just a biography; it’s a feast for our senses. With Alberto San Juan embodying Balenciaga’s elegance and meticulousness, the show revels in the intricate details of his garments, capturing the period’s glamour and highbrow drama.

Through his loves and losses, the series remains devoted to his art, humorously.
