Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara-starrer Jawan smashed box office records over the weekend to become the fastest Indian movie to cross the ₹500 crore ($60 million) mark worldwide in just four days.

The film that also features a galaxy of stars from the South Indian movie industry collected more than ₹100 crore at the global box office in each of the past four days, with ₹125.05 crore on the opening day, followed by ₹109.24 crore, ₹140.17 crore and ₹156.80 crore, an analysis showed.

For comparison, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan made about ₹1,055 crore during its lifetime on the global box office.

The high-octane action flick hit the screens on 7 September and had a phenomenal opening day, raking in ₹75 crore in net earnings across India.

In the domestic market, the film, which released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, garnered a net box office collection of ₹286.16 crore over four days.

Jawan is Shah Rukh Khan’s second successful venture this year after Pathaan, which had put the star back on track after a string of box office failures.

Incidently, Jawan eclipsed Pathaan’s record for the highest single-day earnings for any film in India.

Pathaan had earned ₹70.50 crore across India (with collections in Hindi at ₹68 crore) on 26 January, its second day of release, which was also a national holiday. Jawan roared past this figure, grossing ₹81 crore on its fourth day on Sunday, according to estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk.

Marking Tamil director Atlee’s Hindi debut, Jawan also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, and Sanya Malhotra in pivotal roles.
