Biden dials up Modi to discuss Ukraine, Bangladesh situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to US President Joe Biden over the phone on Monday, briefing the latter on his recent visit to Ukraine while also discussing the situation in Bangladesh.

Both leaders expressed their ‘shared concern’ over the situation in Bangladesh.
Discussing the situation in Ukraine, Modi reiterated India’s consistent position in favor of dialogue and diplomacy, and expressed full support for an early return of peace and stability, a ministry of external affairs statement said.
The two leaders had a detailed exchange of views on several regional and global issues, the statement added.
Meanwhile, Biden commended Modi for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades, and for Modi’s message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine, including the energy sector, the White House said in a statement.
Both Modi and Biden also emphasized their continued commitment to working together, including through regional groups such as the Quad, and to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
Modi also conveyed his appreciation for Biden’s deep commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, which is based on shared values of democracy, rule of law, and strong people-to-people ties.
Both leaders reviewed significant progress in bilateral relations, while highlighting that the India-US partnership aims to benefit the people of both countries and humanity.
Both leaders affirmed their continued support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict by international law based on the UN Charter.
