Former chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director at Tata Consultancy Services Ltd Rajesh Gopinathan has joined the National Stock Exchange (NSE) as a board member, Mint reported.

The NSE website has updated the webpage listing its board of directors, including Gopinathan as a public interest director.

This positions Gopinathan as the second head of a technology company to be appointed to the NSE after Vineet Nayar, the former vice-chairman and CEO of HCL Technologies Ltd, who joined the board as a non-independent director.

Gopinathan’s appointment comes at a critical juncture when the exchange is looking to shifting its data center from the current premises amid high volumes of derivatives and surging cash flows, the Mint report said.

Gopinathan’s 25 years of experience in the global technology industry will come in handy for the exchange, the report said, citing unidentified people aware of the developments.

The NSE plans to shift its data center to a new place “sometime next year”, group chief financial officer had said in an earnings call earlier this month.
