In mega trade push, PM lays foundation for Bharat Mart in Dubai
Warehousing facility for small businesses will help boost their exports to Middle East, Africa and Europe
Prime Minister Narendra Modi this week laid the foundation for Bharat Mart, a warehousing facility for small businesses, along with UAE vice-president Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai.
The Bharat Mart, which is being compared with Dragon Mart, the largest Chinese market in the UAE, will be built by Emirati logistics firm DP World at the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone, a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office said.
At the virtual event, Modi said Bharat Mart will facilitate exports from Indian micro, small, and medium entities in what would boost bilateral trade ties between both nations.
“Bharat Mart has the potential to play an important role in promoting exports of the micro, small and medium sectors of India by providing them an effective platform to reach out to international buyers in the Gulf, West Asia, Africa, and Eurasia,” Modi said.
Bharat Mart is expected to be fully operational by 2025.
Spread across 100,000 sq. m, the facility is expected to help make shipping from India to Africa and Europe faster and more cost-effective.
