KKR plans largest Asia infrastructure fund of $9 billion: report
This would mark KKR’s third infrastructure fund targeting the region, a substantial share of which is expected to be invested in India
Global private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) is in the process of raising its largest infrastructure fund for the Asia market at about $9 billion, Mint reported, citing people in the know.
This would be KKR’s third infrastructure fund focused on the region and a significant portion is expected to be invested in India, the report said.
The firm previously funnelled a major share of its infrastructure investments into the country.
The fund is currently undergoing fundraising, and commitments have already been secured for a first close, the report added.
The first and second Asia infrastructure funds were sealed at $3.9 billion and $6.4 billion, respectively. Of these, about 25-30% were invested in India.
KKR has so far built a portfolio across renewable energy, power transmission, highways, and logistics.
Its investments include India Grid Trust, Virescent Infrastructure, Hero Future Energies, Highway Infrastructure Trust, Serentica Renewables, and Leap India, covering energy and transport-related sectors.
There has been a growing interest from international investors in India’s infrastructure sector.
In the recent past, global investors from Blackstone to Brookfield have raised their exposure to the country’s core assets, from expressways to renewable energy projects.
