A look at the 10 Indian schools that made it to the top 250 in latest QS ranking of educational institutions for the MBA and business masters programs

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have consistently dominated rankings for B-schools in India, and globally. In the latest QS world rankings for 2024, six IIMs are among the top 10 in India and also rank within the 250 worldwide.

Here are the top 10 Indian schools that made it to the top 250 global list in the 2024 QS rankings for the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Business Masters programs:

1- Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

With an overall score of 68.5, IIM Bangalore has occupied the 48th rank for its full-time MBA course globally, up from 50th rank last year. In Asia, IIM Bangalore has been ranked eighth-best to pursue a full-time MBA. IIM Bangalore has 109 full-time faculty members, about 1,200 students across degree-granting programs, and nearly 5,000 annual Executive Education participants.

2- Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad

IIM Ahmedabad, founded in 1961, is the second-oldest IIM and is consistently ranked as one of the best business schools in India. IIM Ahmedabad has been ranked No.1 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023. In the QS World University Rankings 2024, it is placed at number 52, with an overall score of 66.3.

3- Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta

IIM Calcutta has been placed 59th in the QS B-school rankings with an overall score of 63.3. The institute was established in 1961 in collaboration with the Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Ford Foundation, and the government of West Bengal. The IIM-C campus is spread across 135 acres of Joka, a suburb in the southern part of Kolkata. 

4- Indian School of Business, Hyderabad

Identified as one of the best global B-schools, the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad has secured the 78th rank in the QS rankings with an overall score of 60.1. The ISB is a research-oriented international business school. The ISB’s Governing Board comprises business leaders, entrepreneurs, and academicians from some of the world’s leading business and management education institutions. It has formal affiliations with the Kellogg School of Management, the Wharton School, and the London Business School.

5- Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur

With an overall score of 42.7, the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU) is ranked between 151-200 among the world’s top business schools in the QS rankings. IIMU is one of the 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and was the thirteenth IIM to be established in India. Founded in the year 2011, IIM Udaipur provides high-quality management education to young minds and working professionals. It was ranked 13th in the Management category and 1st among the new IIMs by the NIRF. 

6- Indian Institute of Management, Indore

Consistently rated among India’s best business schools, IIM Indore was Established in 1996. The institute has been a leader in management education, interfacing with the industry, government, and PSUs. It is an institute of national importance under the Indian Institutes of Management Act 2017. It got an overall score of 42.2 and is ranked between 151-200 in the QS ranking of top business schools. 

7- Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow is the fourth in the prestigious IIM family of management schools to be established in India after IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad, and IIM Bangalore. Set up in the culturally rich north Indian of Lucknow in 1984, IIM Lucknow also runs a satellite campus exclusively for Executive Education in Noida near Delhi. In the QS rankings for top business schools, it is ranked between 151-200, with an overall score of 41.3. 

8- XLRI- Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur

Recognized as one of the best non-IIM business schools in India, XLRI is also the oldest B-school in India. It was founded in 1949 by a group of Jesuit priests to bring a change in the economy and society at large. With an overall score of 40.2, XLRI is ranked between 201-250 in the QS ranking for global business schools. 

9- International Management Institute, Delhi

International Management Institute (IMI) is India’s first corporate-sponsored business school. Founded in 1981 in New Delhi, its corporate sponsors include RPG Enterprises, ITC, Nestle, Tata Chemicals, British Oxygen, SAIL, and Williamson Magor. It was set up in collaboration with the then-IMI Geneva, now IMD Lausanne. It has scored 35.3 and is ranked between 201-250 in the QS ranking for B-schools. 

10- Management Development Institute, Gurugram

With an overall score of 35.3, Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon has been ranked between 201-250 among the top business schools by the QS. The institute has been a trendsetter in the field of management education, consulting, high-quality research, and executive development. The institute has the distinction of being the first internationally accredited Indian business school having received international accreditation by the Association of MBAs (AMBA) London in 2006. It was accredited by the South Asian Quality Assurance Systems (SAQS) in 2006.
